THE NEW ENGLAND QUILT MUSEUM AND LOWELL WOMEN'S WEEK 2012
March 8, 2012: A Tribute for Our Gold Star Mothers
The New England Quilt Museum invites you to a special Open House and Sit and Sew event on Thursday, March 8 from 10 AM - 3 PM as we assemble blocks and quilts in collaboration with the Massachusetts Chapter of Home of the Brave Quilts, a non-partisan group of dedicated volunteers providing comfort quilts to grieving families of our fallen soldiers who served in Iraq and Afghanistan. All interested individuals are welcome to visit the museum, sign a completed block and/or stay to assemble more blocks and quilt tops.
Everything is provided for your use -- kits with pre-cut fabrics, sewing supplies and sewing machines.
From 12:30 – 1:30 PM, Julie Crossland, Co-Coordinator of the Massachusetts Chapter of Home of the Brave Quilts, will tell the history of the Project, its connection to the Civil War and the US Sanitary Commission. Join museum staff and volunteers for this lunchtime lecture.
Bring your lunch or purchase one from any of our neighborhood restaurants. Coffee and tea will be served. Reservations are not required.
Location: New England Quilt Museum, 18 Shattuck Street, Lowell
From 4-7 PM, our Sit and Sew event will continue at Middlesex Community College (33 Kearney Square, Lowell, MA), who are also partnered with us to honor our nation's Gold Star Mothers.
For more information call 978-452-4207, ext 17 or email outreach@nequiltmuseum.org
