QUILTING RESOURCES AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
The New England Quilt Museum Library is self-supporting and staffed entirely by volunteers. We are available to research your questions on any aspect of quilting and quilt history. For information on how we can help you, click on Ask the Library. We make every effort to be on hand when the museum is open but please check in advance before making a special trip to do research in the library.
Everyone can visit the library to:
- browse and research over 2000 reference books
- read current issues of quilt magazines
- find information on quilt guilds and quilt shows in New England
- try current quilt software
- create fabric labels on the computer
Museum members can also:
- borrow from the circulating collection, which contains over 1600 items for adults and children--these include quilt and textile history,
quilt fiction and videos.
- have books and videos mailed to them anywhere in the U.S. for the cost of postage.
Borrowing
Members of the New England Quilt Museum are encouraged to take advantage of the thousands of books available for borrowing in our research library. Complete and submit a Library Inquiry Form to send a book request to our library volunteers. They will notify you by email whether the books you seek are in the library and available for loan. Feel free to seek recommendations on books related to your topic.
NEW! You can now search the library collection online to find the materials you need. Click here.
You can pick up your selection in person or have it mailed to you. The loan period is one month and may be renewed if no other member is waiting for that title.
When returning mailed books, we ask that you enclose a check to the New England Quilt Museum to cover our outgoing postage to you. Ask the post office for the Library Rate. Our shipping address:

Donate library itemsYou are invited to donate books, magazines and videos. Every new title is kept in the reference collection, with duplicate copies added to the circulating library. Items not needed for our collections become part of our Continuous Yard Sale, the proceeds of which help fund the ongoing expenses of the library and museum. The yard sale accepts quilt-related items in good condition only (eg. books and magazines published in the past decade). Please contact us before bringing a large donation.
VolunteerNew volunteers are always welcome. Come once a month or more often if you like. When you volunteer, you have total access to all these wonderful resources, a substantial discount at the museum shop and access to the current exhibition.
